Tuesday - Surfing
Tuesday marked two great occasions: Our 3rd anniversary (the real reason to celebrate!) and learning to surf. We booked surfing lessons thru Expedia when we booked our trip, so we didn't totally know what to expect, but it turned out to be great.
I might not have guessed it before, but surfing is actually a lot of work! After several much-needed cold drinks & shave ice (sadly, nothing like on Oahu's North Shore), we went out for a special dinner for our anniversary.

Our surf instructor was with Royal Hawaiian Surfing in Lahaina. He was patient and calm with us, despite the fact that I was incredibly nervous (Matt did a lot better than I did). They have a guarantee that if you don't get up, you get another free lesson. None of that for us - we both managed to catch a few waves, though I think I probably spent about 1 second total riding the waves. Thankfully the photographer had a fast camera so he could catch our meager attempts. :) Matt did a lot better, and would have totally cruised in on his last wave were it not for another beginner who didn't know how to turn!
Dinner
We had dinner at Mala Ocean Tavern. (oh, and by the way, the green stuff they serve with the chips & salsa is not guacamole...)

They took down the awning covering the patio, which was lined with these torches. Pretty good way to watch sunset, if you ask me!
