Paris: The Musee d'Orsay

The first Sunday of the month happens to be free day for many popular Parisian museums, including the Orsay. So, after sleeping in, we queued up with hundreds of people outside this building (which was once a train station) to view the premiere collection of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism paintings in the world. The Louvre is huge, but stops before this important (and popular) era in art. The Orsay is filled with statues, decorative objects, and of course paintings by the likes of Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, etc. Photography without a flash is permitted, so we snapped pics of some favorites.

An old train station was converted into this art museum. Good thing they didn't tear down such a beautiful building!

Entering the museum, you find yourself in a huge hall absolutely filled with sculptures. Smaller galleries come off the sides.

We don't remember the name of the artist of these paintings, but we both thought they was very nice:

Renoir

Van Gogh

Gaugin

Monet

El Greco

From a patio area on the top floor, you can see to Sacre Coeur

The top level also has a place to look out over the grand hall

After the Orsay, we walked around Paris a bit before going to the Eiffel Tower. Continue to see that.
