First package!

I came home tonight and found a package with our first wedding presents sitting outside my apartment door. Some of my Minnesota family put together a box of shower gifts, since we weren't able to have a shower for me up there. Very fun!

Not like Matt & I are in this for the presents (sign up for a lifelong committment just to get some household items? I don't think so...), but it was fun to get a package. :) It really raised my spirits today.

RSVPs

I thought i'd post an answer here to a question I've seen a couple times: "How do I RSVP for the wedding?"

Easy -- just send an email to the address on the invitation -- you do that through your normal email account like you were emailing anybody else. That will send an email to a special account we created to hold RSVPs. When your response is received (which should be immediately), you'll receive an automatic response. Once a week or so, I'll go through that box and reply to any specific questions you have / etc.

Hope that helps!

Where Can We Find... UPDATE

I think we have a source on baby food jars -- my Aunt Colleen has a friend who has them. If someone else locally has some, we might be able to use them, too (I'm not sure how many we need yet).

And, I think we also have a source on the coffee pots!

Thanks for your help, everyone!

A note for those who will be flying here

Just a quick note: I've recently rediscovered SideStep. I find it frequently quotes better prices for airfare than does Expedia. If you're going to be flying to Austin for the wedding, you might give it a look - you could save a few bucks.

Invitations

Most of the invitations are now in the mail. A few more will be mailed in the next couple of days, so they should be reaching you soon.

Where can we find...

#1 - Baby food jars -- know anybody who could save their leftover jars up through October 7th? We're thinking about luminary candle bags to light the pathways -- to get them to stand up against wind/etc, adding some small jars inside the bags would be good. The toddler-size food jars would work better than the baby-size food jars.

#2 - An extra cooler for ice & drinks or two -- to hold cooled beverages before going to the main serving cooler.

#3 - Large size coffee pot, anybody?

If you've got a source on any of these, please let me know!

Thanks!

Quick update

I'm swamped at work planning our annual Leadership Retreat, but figured I'd take a few more minutes on the computer today to post an update -- it isn't work so this is actually kinda fun!

INVITATIONS:
Will be ready soon! If you've moved recently, please pass along your updated address (email me at becky {dot} white {at} gmail {dot} com -- please don't post your address in the public comments area).

SHOWERS:
Are being talked about. If you want to talk about that, talk to one of my lovely bridesmaids -- Jo Kretzler and Lisa Reid. :)

DRESSES:
After a slight trouble ordering the bridesmaids dresses, I now have them in my possession! Hopefully they'll fit! Originally, I was shooting for periwinkle, but had to substitute navy -- and as it turns out, the dresses look beautiful (at least on their hangers!).

I'm trying to do something each day for the wedding -- anything I can do now will save me during September! I'm awfully busy, but I'm trying hard to keep up with all of this and everything else!! Matt continues to be a great help -- and I'm thankful that my parents continue to listen patiently when I need to talk through an idea. :)

Thanks, everyone!

Let us eat cake!

I signed and delivered the contract to our cake baker today. The samples from this shop were good -- actually tasted like cake should! (unlike some wedding cakes I've had in the past...)

We're having a bride's cake and a separate groom's cake. Both will be fun and unique, but completely different from each other.

The cake & filling flavors include many things y'all suggested, plus our personal favorites. You'll find out the flavors when you bite in October 7th!

Funny rsvp mix-up

So, there's another Becky White out there somewhere who has a daughter who's getting married in about 5 weeks. This wedding group sent invitations over the weekend -- with RSVPs to go to this other Becky White's email account. But... the font that they used makes her address look like my largely-unused hotmail address, so I've been getting a couple messages a day about it.

I got a nice note from the mom & daughter, explaining the story and nicely asking me to forward on the RSVPs. I'm happy to do it. But, I'm sure they were surprised when I wrote back saying that I'm actually getting married not long after.

Funny how that happens. :)

And, lesson learned: I'm going to triple-check that the address we list is readable!!

Oh, By the Way

If you ever build a new house, or just put up new walls in the old one, please don't just slap wallpaper directly on the drywall. Please, prime the walls. And use sizing of some kind under the wallpaper. Also, if you ever decide to put in new wallpaper, don't just slap it directly over the old wallpaper. Strip the old first. Or at least use sizing between the layers. Furthermore, when you put up new wallpaper, don't just butt the edges against each other and try to compensate by using lots and lots of extra paste. Because sooner or later, somebody's going to want to strip the cheeseball southwestern themed wallpaper you put up.

I tell you these things for your proetection. Because if you don't follow this advice, the next person who owns your house might well be consumed with the desire to find you, drag you screaming from your house, and make you fix the walls. And on that day, you will wish you had listened to my advice.

I'm just saying...

- Matt, bitter homeowner

Here comes the crunch

Here Comes the Crunch
It's August 1 as I write this; just over two months until the big day.

Man, there's a lot to do.

Here's a brief summary of what we're up to at the moment:

  • Had consultations with a couple photographers. We think both are pretty good options, though we're definitely favoring one over the other. Now it's a matter of checking references, looking at the better business bureau, etc. Then fun with contracts.

  • We're finalizing the cake design. We picked out the cake people, and now we have to sign the contracts, etc.

  • Becky's talking to florists

  • I'm talking to tux people

  • We're finalizing the details with the caterers.

So that's a lot.

But wait, there's more!

  • Becky's in charge of a big retreat for our church's leadership. It's at the end of the month.

  • I'm working on a huge new feature for the product I work on. We went to test this morning; the coming weeks will tell whether or not I've done good work.

Now how much would you pay? But don't answer that yet, there's more:

  • We're stripping wallpaper, painting, cleaning, and getting ready to move Becky into my (our) house.

Suffice to say that you don't need to worry whether we have enough to do.
